This Blog Rated E for Excelente

I'd like to send a hearty ¡Ahooooahh! (the Mexican version, not the military one) over to my blog amigos at Drinking Liberally in New Milford and The Sirens Chronicles for tagging this humble blog as a recipient for the 'E for Excellent' Award.

This is not something I do full-time. It's just a hobby, albeit an important one to me. The energy levels ebb and flow with each day, but I've always considered it worth it to create a space that can channel my thoughts. Little by little the traffic has risen around here, and it's in part due to building relationships with other bloggers who share solidarity with the things that fill these posts each day.

I'm happy to have had the opportunity to network and dialog with people all across this country as a result of being infected by the blogging virus, and looking forward to doing more of that very soon. We have to restore balance to the narrative of how we treat one another, and it won't happen through silence - so here are some people that I am happy to pass on the ¡Premio Excelente! over to:
  • Craig at Random Musings - for keeping us up to speed on the antics of the dwellers in the Valle del Sol. He is a blogger who is both activist and journalist with a healthy sense of humor, my favorite type.
  • Jan at happening-here? - her blog embodies human rights, and she just had a blogiversary, so go say hi!
  • Tedski at Rum, Romanism and Rebellion - R Cubed is my favorite Grand Canyon State blog. Reading any post there will show you why. Plus, he has ¡Free Baja Arizona! stickers
  • Jen at You Would Think - a blogging friend who's on the short list of Must Meet Someday. She makes me laugh, think and grow every time she creates a new post.
  • field at the field negro - tells it like it is, we need more of that. plus, the sidebar pictures and commentary usually have me howling in laughter at my desk.
  • NL at Smartypants - she's turned her blog into a forum for asking the deep, and often difficult, questions of why we treat one another a certain way and how to move forward on a more humane path.
  • XicanoPwr at ¡Para Justicia y Libertad! - I can never say enough great things about him and the work he's done over the years to re-frame the immigration debate online in a perspective that speaks to those of us who find ourselves targeted by the rhetoric of hate.
  • boran2 at Survivor Left Blogistan - not only is he a painter, he has been covering the ongoing assault on our national parks and environment for the couple of years I've been reading him. He's also a loyal commenter all over the neighborhood and a great person to meet in person (can't wait to return to the red rocks!)
  • olivia at parvum opus - her breathtaking photos are a reminder that there is still beauty in this world, all it takes is a little patience to stop and find it. A macro lens helps, too. jejeje
  • nezua at The Unapologetic Mexican - hilarious, witty and versed on the art of slaying ignorance. His writing pushes me to do refine my voice in this medium and that of the outside world.
There are many others that are deserving of wider recognition. I hope you'll take the time to step away from the bigger sites and find out what intrepid work is being done out here in the boonies. A good start are the blogrolls to your right ------->

The prodigal Sunday Eegeehood Tour returns

One truism that has tons of truth to it is "you never really know what you have until it is gone." I think it goes without saying that Nanette's Sunday Tours along with Manny's Friday Bud Blogging were features that seemed to keep our little corner of the blogging diaspora together. The hood has certainly changed over the last year. Several houses remain vacant. Every once in a while we get a new neighbor. We really need a block party. So in that spirit:

Let's introduce a new neighbor: Smartypants. Actually, you've seen her occupying some other pads as NLinStPaul. She's finally signed a lease on her own blogging space. Check it out.

One of our neighbors has checked in after months of seclusion: Dove, whose blog In Flight features the unfinished but still quite good joint project that she and the (hate to say it) probably late Ductape Fatwa were working on (titled Artichoke Circus) before his sudden disappearance.

A couple of us have lately been blogsitting over at Everybody Comes From Somewhere, where you might just find the occasional Bokononist quotation.

XicanoPwr always drops some interesting palabras over at ¡Para Justicia y Libertad!, including a notice that his blog is hosting a Q & A session with the author of The Latino Challenge to Black America this October 11.

Nezua's always in the hood - check his recent joint, Mind Your Myanmars. Of course as Nanette would say, just start at the top of his blog and scroll down.

Boran2's acrylic painting of the Grand Canyon is coming along nicely.

Just a few days ago, Olivia presented us a gorgeous sunset photo - I can't say I've ever seen the Ottawa River, but it looks like a wonderful place to spend some time. Olivia of course dazzles her visitors on a regular basis with flower photos. Take a peek.

Family Man is still rolling along, in spite of a little electrical mishap that strikes me as something I'd do. My encounter with electrical current had something to do with an electrical outlet, a malfunctioning blowdryer, and the fact that I was sopping wet after having just jumped out of the shower - but that's a story for another time.

After a lengthy hiatus, Migra Matters is back in a big way, most recently covering the Dream Act.

Our usual tour guide has certainly kept herself busy, including sharing some words written by a great-great-great uncle that show just how little things have changed in the intervening century when it comes to race relations.

Intrepid Liberal Journal's latest essay paints an unflatteringly accurate portrait of war profiteer Erik Prince.

Checked Eat4Today lately?

Okay. I'm sure I'm leaving some folks out. As I said, several houses seem to have been vacated - perhaps temporarily, perhaps permanently. We need a block party. If someone's got the sound equipment, I'll bring the tunes.

Peace and love, y'all.

Come one, Come all, to the Eegeehood Someday Tour!

OMG, where have you all been?? Oh wait... what do you mean you've been here? Without me!? The nerve! That's okay tho, all is forgiven (ahem). No time for recriminations when there is peeking to do!

*Looks at Bud... wanders off whistling to get her peeking gear*

First up... gasp. Deano. The art crit. I think he has decided that we are all a bunch of heathens who cannot appreciate good art (or even know what we are looking at... okay, so that's just me, but still), and so he's decided not to... to... hang up his red pen! Thanks for all the intros to the new artists and ways of looking at art, deano! Hopefully you'll be back and critiquing again one day.

All righty then... I'll just say that if you have a dentist phobia, wave at Family Man from afar! Not that he's a dentist, mind you, but he's been having an awful lot of contact with them lately and while I am sure they are very nice people at home or at the pool... just remember, in their own offices they reign! In happier news, Cat still lives (amazingly).

Original James had much the same reaction to the new "Save Darfur" music and cd effort that I did. I think heart's are in the right place, but still. Also - taking off from a post of Arthur Silber's, he explores some facets of white heterosexual privilege and victim blaming - should make for an interesting discussion! And Katrina victims might be considering negotiating with France to buy back Louisiana in order to get some help down there. There is much more there, scroll down! Jazzy James may be still in Vegas, but in case you missed all the Miles Davis stuff to download... go look!

[UPDATE!] Wow, did you know we were painting a most excellent building? Well, by "we" I mean boran, but anyway... I quite like that building! Mind you, if I saw it in person it might make me seasick, but I love the curves in the painting. I can't wait to see how we finish it! Also, while boran may lean left his logo, I'm sad to say, leans right in my foxy browser! What say you? And contemptuous familiarity - don't we know it well!

ILJ highlights and talks about a Foreign Policy article, and details the interlocking fortunes of a trio of major players, whose causes feed each other, in the Middle East region. Also, is is possible for the US military to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis after all this time? A Marine captain gives his opinion and ILJ brings it to us.

Have I got some moos for you! It's about Olivia, of course. See, it's like this - Olivia didn't have any clouds, but she did have this cow-- don't ask me why Olivia has a cow--so anyway, no clouds but there is a cow with a cloud nose just sitting there, and so... I mean, what would you do? But, that's not all! Then this Friday there's this frog (yes, a frog! and not a flowery one, either) up there that obviously doesn't believe a word I, or anyone else, just said! And, then, in between skeptical frogs and cloudy nosed cows, she has lovely flowers and bees! Go look!

[UPDATE AGAIN!] It took me a long time to figure out who Jessica Alba was... but it looks like it's taking even a longer time for her to figure it out! Sad. Nezua has compassion and advice. Oh man, superheroes I can identify with! Aren't they great? Also, don't you think it's about time that casting directors sort of, you know, choose people who already look the part? Well, unless the part is Chewbacca or something - (nothing against any Chewbacca lookalikes, by the way). There is more there, but not as much as usual cuz the chronicles of Nezua have taken an unexpected turn this month. Oh wait! I almost forgot... haunting, fascinating and well worth it... this time, it's go listen!

katiebird is continuing on her quest to educate people on healthcare and get the politicians moving! They don't know that they are dealing with someone who is firmed daily, so they'd better watch out! Oh hey, she's on two weeks vacation now - but is not going on a cruise or anything! Not even to the vibrating tanning beds, that I can see. Also, this is an older post, from the eat4today lounge, but one that is definitely still timely... What will the ‘homeless’ do when our libraries go virtual?

Manny has bunches of good stuff here, too! Old buses, water woes and more (what was a double decker bus doing in Az anyway?) Also, he wants to know if there are any old buses (or news!) in your part of the world... so tell him! And making fun of Ahnold, as everyone should do. We should have a rally and, in a coordinated way, shout phrases in Spanish at him. See if he melts. There is more there, scroll down, scroll down!

All done! If I've forgotten anyone, let me know.

Sunday Nite Tour of tha 'Hood

Hi there tourists. Welcome to the Eegeehood Tour. I'm James and I'll be your guide tonight. Nanette is using up some of her paid leave time, and since these tours just don't happen without a tour guide, here I am. We hope you remembered to bring your binoculars (if not, we will gladly offer some for rental - see the assistant near rear exit). Fresh coffee and bagels are also being served as we speak. So, everyone, get out those celebrity Z-list bloggers maps and get ready for the ride of your lives.

First on our route is the home of Manny, without whom we would not have an Eegeehood, and hence I'd be out of a job as a tour guide (these gigs are hard to come by). As you can see, there is a lovable basset who patrols the grounds, and a good friend or two offering up the latest example of nativist racism. Remember to drop by and offer a few good words of support for Manny.

Since the home of tonight's humble tour guide is just next door, let's take a peep there next. Obviously you will not see me there at this very moment (unless you've consumed some primo blotter acid), but I can assure you that the house is far from empty. Dominating the front lawn is a post on my absolute disgust with the Dems' latest sell-out. They've done a heck of a job folks. Give 'em a hand (or the bird). Crooks and Liars picked it up, and mi casa has seen more visitors in one day than had dropped in during the previous week. But enough about me.

The guest house is my jazz joint (Nothing Is), but we're taking five as they say in the biz. Drop by later in the week, when we'll be droppin' some slammin' tunes.

Nezua always has something happening at his pad, including his chronicles. His is one blog to just start at the top and keep reading.

Duke at Migra Matter catches possible Presidential candidate Fred Thompson acting like a bigot (well, true he's an actor, but he really is a bigot).

Xicanopwr has a few things to say about the current immigration reform efforts in Congress and how it will screw a lot of good people.

Catnip has some more food for thought (truly a feast for the brain), as well as a video of Black Uhuru from the mid 1980s. A quick bit of trivia: in the graphic novel version of V for Vendetta, the title character makes reference to Black Uhuru in one of his early conversations with Evey.

The big pink estate just down the street is Mo Betta Meta, which has plenty to say about the Big Orange palace this week.

Boran is painting part of New York City! I see many visits to Home Depot in the future. I know bad joke.

Intrepid Liberal Journal has a few thoughts for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Family Man has something to be proud of! Congrats on your 10,000th visitor.

Olivia's place is the neighborhood's garden, with so many beautiful flowers to admire. This of course is a good place to stop and smell the roses.

Our neighborhood is also home to a place dedicated to health improvement. Want to learn a few things about nutrition, or about the mindset needed to lose weight? Always a welcoming place to visit.

Tonight's tour ends here, Everybody Comes From Somewhere, where I shall direct your attention to the tribute to anti-war protesters.

We at Eegeehood Tours, Inc. hope you have enjoyed your visit. Please don't forget to schedule another tour with us - possibly as soon as next Sunday. You never know which Z-list celebrities you might just run into.

Peace out.

Late Sunday Eegeehood Mini-Tour

Damn. It seems like this must be vacation season, as several houses in tha 'hood have been unoccupied as of late. I guess it beats the summer travel rush, when those gas prices are going to hit $4 per gallon. Some of us are still around though, and maybe we should have a block party or something.

I'll bring the tunes: a couple live bootleg Miles Davis concerts from 1975. Check Another Unity from late January 1975 and a bootleg taped Philly gig from mid-May 1975.

I might even drop some Nathaniel Mackey words or reflect on the state of pop music just to get the conversation starting. Mad props due to Arcturus for introducing me to Mackey's work. Arcturus seems to be on an extended vacation. Hopefully it involves touring jazz joints all across the known universe.

Over at Everybody Comes From Somewhere, check nlinstpaul's piece on the growing trend toward multipolarity in international politics.

Nezua is on fire. The True Front of Progressivism should be mandatory reading. As the vacationing Nanette would say, his is one of those blogs that you just start at the top and keep reading.

XicanoPwr is prognosticating a new Rage Against the Machine album, and has been giving his readers the 411 on neo-Nazi terrorism in Los Angeles. He also live-blogged this year's May Day activities and provided some much-needed coverage of the May Day police brutality at MacArthur Park. Duke at Migra Matters also has some coverage of the MacArthur Park police freakout.

A couple weeks ago, Janet's blog Peace Gone Wild had a youtube video of some Portland peace protest activity. I hate the war too.

Deano has an impressionist-flavored painting by Ann Marie Coolick available for viewing pleasure. Keeping on the art tip, check out boran2's progress on his painting of a 1959 Volvo. I love Volvos, especially the ones from the 1950s and 1960s. Olivia's always got some gorgeous flower photos to check out, including her latest of a lily. She's also got a guest photo by North Dakota Democrat titled "Spring Sunset in North Dakota" that reminds me of why I love the high plains so much. We've got a theme going on now, so here's a couple pictures of a pond by Family Man (who is back after a brief haitus due to a computer mishap).

Rob at Intrepid Liberal Journal has a podcast interview with Riane Eisler (whose book The Chalice and the Blade is a classic), and a reminder of just how awful corporate media of Junior Caligula's May 1, 2003 photo-op (all we need to say is "Mission Accomplished" to jar the memory) really was.

Katiebird has an informative post on what Melamine does to pets' kidneys, as well as melamine contamination of poultry and hogs slaughtered for human consumption.

Mo Betta Meta has an "offensive" editorial response to the report that 80% of blogs contain offensive content.

Catnip's got a roundup of news, as well as her always ace Sunday food for thought.

As y'all know, Man Eegee's also on a blogging vacation, but occasionally someone drops by to water the plants and feed Bud.

Hopefully I didn't leave any of the non-vacationers out.

Tag, I'm It! And Maybe You Too?

How can I resist the reciprocation? Especially after James said such nice things? It's always such a humbling experience to see that people actually read what you have to write, rant, and fuss about on the tubes. James is a cool cat, someone who never fails to offer a link, comment, or tune that I can dig.

So, with that, here's some other peeps that I've come to encounter online that I'm always happy to read and hear from:

Duke over at Migra Matters: This man has opened me up to the world of policy with respect to the immigration debate. He has been a mentor, a friend, and a hell of a blogging inspiration. Migra Matters is a top-notch blog that has helped to give a voice to the voiceless and slay the propaganda that fills the airwaves.

XicanoPwr: Wow. That's the only way to describe my reaction to every post he writes and shares with a vast audience at tons of blogs. Every screed he writes is ripe with commentary and linkage that gets me lost in the vast ocean of information and human rights advocacy.

Not enough can be said about the privilege I have to have encountered Nanette in the blogosphere: every word she writes and shares with us exudes life with a healthy dose of humor and compassion. I'm humbled that she's given so much effort to build community throughout various blogs with the Sunday Tour here. I could never repay her for her kindness and friendship.

Madman in the Marketplace and wilfred over at Liberal Street Fighter: When I first encountered Madman's words, he pissed me off, but I quickly learned that the reason was because he was boldly telling Truth that I already knew but didn't necessarily want to hear. Since I realized that, I found myself seeking out his commentary and hoping that all of the things he stood in the town square to proclaim would someday come true. Wilfred has given me tons of prods to seek out movies and movements that work to bring about a more progressive world. Many thanks to them both.

The last slot goes to the king of snark, boran2: I'm thankful that you continue to share your progressivism with us through your comments, diaries, and art. Whether it's about genetically modified food, the latest encounter with the wingnuts in your real life, or the beauty of subtle shadows added to a hot rod, the invitation to "Paint us a picture of your thoughts" is one that should be embraced my the world.

There are many, many more. Obviously; but to all the commenters, lurkers, friends and family that I've encountered online:

MuchĆsimas Gracias

The Sunday "Bud Got a Makeover" Tour!

It's true! Our Bud apparently decided that he was tired of being a soulful eyed, waggy tailed, cheesecake begging cutie and has instead elected to become a slinky, orange ringed cat! Who probably disdains cheesecake! Oh, the humanity! Or, um... oh, the dog and cattery! We still love you, Bud, even if you do change your name to Paris or something!

When our Manny's away, the mice... well, you know, the one thing we don't have in this story is mice! Good thing, what do you think we are running here, a menagerie?

So, let's see what else has happened during the week! Are you ready to peek? Let's go!

Family Man has a great story (and a fun picture of a very small cowboy) about growing up in the (on the?) Mississippi Delta and uncles and WWII and scanning in memories - something I need to do too! Also, we need more good thoughts for his brother !

I dunno about katiebird and all this firming daily stuff... apparently it has caused her to turn into a rubber bag! Should we worry? Maybe not! Also, healthy eating... by video! Now that's my kind of healthy eating. I also enjoy watching people exercise on video... by the time they are done, I'm all worn out! And sometimes our body sneaks up on us sort of like my cat does when trying to convince me that, "no, you really DIDN'T feed me just 15 minutes ago!" Katie has thoughts on this! (not about the cat, though). AND... a good tool to print out and put on your wall... cool picture too!

Everybody still comes from somewhere! But that's not enough for NLinStPaul, no no... she also wants to know where hope comes from! She has some great thoughts on that, and others do too.... if you know, go add your own!

[UPDATE!] Nezua, The Unapologetic Mexican, has some good news and some bad news. The bad news (first, of course)... somehow, we are being Michelle Malkin! Let us cry. And the good news is... Nezua has had the cutest little nephew ever! (there may be some disagreement on this point). Well, he didn't exactly have the nephew, but still... awwww. Also, a chosen disintegration - this needs more thinking about than I can give it at the moment - deep post! And all about the political acumen, bravery and far sightedness (cough) shown by Michael Dowd.

ILJ is wondering.... so who does have that vision thing? Of the people running, who is likely to make you (or him, I should say) devote the time and effort of campaigning and supporting them? See what he has to say about that!

Boran2 highlights how, once again, the Bush admin and Republicans make take stuff one is used to thinking of as being cuckoo bananas... and try to make it policy! Also, our car is getting detailed and a shine now! Soon, it will be ready! Bush seems to think the best way to handle endangered or other species is to remove them from existence! No species, no problem. And, alas, poor MetaUlrick, I knew him well.

[UPDATE THE LAST!] Olivia has an orchid that is giving a full throated aria! Go see, if you don't believe me. Hmph! Also, she has someone else's clouds! These are not Canadian clouds, so no doubt they make different pictures and people look at them and say 'huh' instead of 'eh'! And a daisy, inner bits and all!

Arcturus thinks the game and set are pretty transparent, in the British/Iran thingy... with the US circling the perimeter. Also, segregated toilets in Afghanistan? I suppose that answers one of the "what will they think of to do to alienate the populations next?".

Original James has initiated a Ductape Signal. I hope it is answered :( Also, material letting you know what is going on with Pinon Canyon and what you can do about it! And, the only sane thing to do when faced with an insane system. Sounds about right to me! Jazzy James has returned and is highlighting (and showing where to download) The Streets of St. Louis! I bet JJ has a far better tan than Original James does!

I have something too! I tell you why I am a little teapot, and what I'm going to do about it ! Funny thing is, writing that felt like I was trying to claw my way up through murk, but by the time I got done writing that piece, and making the decisions in it, I already had a working idea in my brain and new excitement! Now I just have to figure out how to implement it, heh.

All done! maybe. Some haven't updated, some are still saying NO PEEKING, and others are doing other stuff! If I've missed you tho, let me know!

[INFO UPDATE!] I forgot that I wanted to let people know that SiteMeter has apparently been sold to another company, and it now places some pretty intrusive tracking cookies on the computers of anyone who visits a site using it. I mean, we peek, but not like that! I have Firefox, so I was able to delete them (I deleted both sitemeter cookies and the one that really does the tracking, specificclick) and then used the Firefox option to block them and so far that seems to have done the trick.

Anyway, it doesn't matter if you are using that service or if you just visit a site that does... which is most likely, as it's the stats info counter thingy of choice for blogs, but either way... it's watching you!

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Oh, the weather outside is delightful... Sunny Sunday Tour!

Mind you, I hear some places are still having winter! Can you imagine? Snow and ice and all those mythical things... well, mythical to some of us, that is! I do think it's easier to empathize, though, when it's down into the 30's and 40s here.. brrr! But when it's almost 90, like it was yesterday? In March?? Sorry, no can do!

I can still visit though! And be nosy! So, let's go!

Meta, meta bo betta, fee fie... okay, well you know the rest, but I'm just letting you know that there is mo meta at mo betta! Ms Xeno is not buying it! And she wants you to not buy it too! Or something like that. You'll have to read it and see what you should be not buying! Also, an interesting discussion, from catnip, going on about the future of blogging... which is something of interest to many people! I bet you have some ideas, so don't be shy! Acturus alerts us a gathering of progressives this summer, who are working for real change in this country and others! And no, the gathering doesn't rhyme with "merely gloss"!

Olivia, Olivia... what can you do with her? Not content with photographing the inner bits of various beauties, she's not gone on to expose the seat of government! Also, look who's peeking now!

By the way... just a reminder that everybody still comes from somewhere! And you can too, just stop on by!

[UPDATE!] [update! too] spotted in the comments... a no caps kangaroo! which gives us not only a good excuse to ignore the caps key in this particular post, but we also can speak in the... the... royal person and not sound weird! since we've not visited for a while, just start at the top and scroll down!

Hmmm.... I think katiebird is getting into numerology! Don't ask me why, you'll have to go see for yourself. Also, catdog is saying that 42 is NOT the answer! Dancing is. (I think they might be a Suspicious Personage). We'll keep an eye on them! (Also, have you noticed the preponderance of fur and feathers there?)

Well! I was over at Nezua's, trying to get a synopsis of this article, when I decided I had to read the whole thing! And so I did, and so should you! Some of that "sit down at the typewriter and open a vein" type of writing. Also, don't miss his Colonizers of the World award for 2006! And, more shame to this nation (the US), but there are things that we can do to help care for the children left behind.

[UPDATE AGAIN!] I think I like this picture! Over at deano's, that is... an Atlantic Twilight! You can tell it's the Atlantic cuz the water is a nice blue, instead of a muddy green. Also, when was the last time you critiqued a political cartoon? Now's your chance! And ohh, la la?

You know one thing I've noticed... catnip has totally stopped thinking on Sunday! But she still does lots of other stuff, like reveals Tory spies and banishes bloggers and peeks in on Tory training camps, so we forgive her for being without thought!

Our car is getting cooler by the day! Boran is adding details and changing the tires and soon... soon... it'll be ready! And also, we get to wave buh-bye to someone, cuz the Tribal Council did the right thing and voted them off the island! And it looks like a win for the good guys, for once!

ILJ has tons of interviews this past week! Okay, so he didn't do them all, but he's highlighting them - and such a variety too... from Senator Jim Webb, to an advocate for the homeless, Rev. Chuck Currie, and then his own interview with peace and justice advocate Marisa Handler! Go listen and read!

[UPDATE THE LAST!] Well, I seem to have somehow offended that great deity, Halo Scan, and it has zapped my post with lightning and removed the comments! ONLY from the tour post!

*ponders whether to light a petitioning fire... or just to set haloscan on fire instead*

Still, we have a few more people to visit, so here we come!

Arcturus has words from that former politician that progressives *cough* love to hate... Cynthia McKinney! Standing up to power is a good thing, as long as you don't do it tooo openly or often, you see.

We must send Family Man and Family Mom pillows, bubble wrap and good thoughts! Take care of yourselves and best of luck and good health to the rest of the family, too!

Original James has bunches of good stuff! You'll need to start at the top and scroll down and read it all! Some of it is short, some long (he has a piece here at Manny's too, scroll down, scroll down!). I think Jazzy James is sort of hiatusing again, though!

All done! I think... if I've missed you um... well... if the great Halo Scan gives comments back, tell me there!
[COMMENT UPDATE!] They are back! And, no matter what anyone says, it was Not My Fault that they disappeared in the first place! Really!

Sunday, March 11, 2007

It's Two, Two... Two Sundays in One! (maybe)

Having decided that set days of the week are just an imperialistic construct (you remember when we decided that, no?), I see no reason why we can't just move last Sunday to this Sunday and have a biiiiiigggg tour!

Okay, well, maybe not. We'll see how long that lasts, or rather... how long I last! Even I am not an indefatigable peeker!

I've just gotta tell you... it's Tough Times in Family Land! Poor Family Man and Family Mom spent last week decrepiting. What? What do you mean that's not a word!? It is here, cuz I have been decrepiting too, at an alarming rate! Get well soon FMom and FMan! I hope this week is better! There is good news though... for one thing, Cat somehow still lives. Outside... Also, don't miss Family Mom's reminiscing!

ILJ notes the difference between principled partisanship and hyperpartisanship... and who better to make that point with that our hyperpartisan, hyperpolitical Attorney General? Also, a perspective on the Scooter Libby thing... he's collateral damage. ILJ also has two related pieces on the US prison system... which could use a lot more scrutiny. First, he wonders if anyone cares about the prison industrial complex, and then... we are still institutionalizing the mentally ill... only this time, in prisons.

A free press? There are doubts! Arcturus details some of them, with examples, in a discussion of the info wars and freeing the press. And the dangers of short term pragmatism... especially when it comes to stores of nuclear materials. I didn't even know the Congo had a nuclear agency... but it seems the US helped build it many years ago, and now there are repercussions. Also, Arundhati Roy is writing a new book! Lots more there besides, including Ecuador wanting the US out NOW! (what are we doing there in the first place?)... start at the top and scroll down! [little update!] Arcturus points out also this - music from the Afghan/Pakistani border region!

[UPDATE!] Olivia has peaches! I bet she's not sharing either... and really, can you blame her? Would you share this beauty? (even if it does eat icky things - where is it that one shops for those delicacies known as, um... bloodworms?).
This is pretty peachie too! Or strawberry shortcakey, if you prefer. And I ask you... where else but Olivia's would you find photos of a bug trying on new shoes? Don't miss the cloud blogging!

Boran is tricking us! Not only are our condos not ready for occupancy... but all development work has stopped on them! For now! All is not lost tho... instead, we have another super cool car! I like the old cars best... they had personality! Also, shocked? I think not, Captain Renault!

Well! One thing we know about Original James. He has some radical view points but he's not completely nuts! Only 56% nuts, apparently... that's better than Planter's! Also he has updates for the Bloggers Against Torture blogroll... scoot on over there and see what's up. His friend Bill Chambers sounds like he would have been an interesting guy to know. And ahh... pictures and their thousand words... especially in political campaigns! We missed the return of Jazzy James, so you may not know about the new offering... Okyerema Asante: Drum Message. Sounds like a treat!

[UPDATE AGAIN!] I give up before I've even begun! Uncle! Mea cul... oh wait, I didn't do anything wrong. I mean um... well, there is just no way I can condense some folk's 2 weeks worth of stuff, even a tiny bit - we love prolific writers, except at tour time! Well we love them still, even then, but what I mean is... no no, um I mean ... okay, maybe now is the time for that mea culpa!

Aha! It looks like any number of chickens are finally finding their way home to roost... catnip tells of the Canadian Defense Ministers efforts at damage control, in the human rights and detainees issue. And no surprise at this finger in the political corruption pie... clean hands are foreign to Rove. And don't miss this post about the rights of women in Canada. So many places are falling down on that, sigh.

Far from toppling over, katiebird has been Up To Things! Well, being firmed daily, of course... but also, she's dissecting Sen. Wyden's health care plan... does it go far enough? And talking about the importance of underwear! Oh wait... who's that!? (No no, it's not poor Britney, shame on you!). It's the ambiguously named catdog, who is now a contributor there! Welcome catdog... hopefully katie has explained to you that weekly we... well... peek! Publicly!

Duke is tired of the euphemisms and thinks it's time to call it what it is... mass deportations. I agree! He also discusses a recent study that may hold some surprising results for some... on the effects of immigrant workers on wages and self employment! And a round-up of immigration news - some of it is from a week or so ago, but there are stories there I missed!

[UPDATE SOME MORE!] There is, perhaps not surprisingly, meta at mo betta! scribe talks about rules and leaders and communities! And catnip ponders that recent NY Times "to do" list, for the Bush admin. Then she takes on big box blogs and the disaffiliated! And, of course, conversation everywhere in open and targeted threads.

Nezua talks about language and accents and growing up, and also how Bush wins over Latin American. Do I sense a little tongue in cheek there? And a beautiful tribute to the women of his family and to others everywhere, for the International Women's Day in El Respeto y El Amor por Las Mujeres. There is lots more there besides, including a cool post that tells you how to play with all the different styles and customize your reading.

I bet you don't know what we almost missed at deano's... The potato hunter! Ah, art. Speaking of... string, birds and houses... what else could it be but "Tracing the Impact"? Also, neat photos of Amsterdam and Kenney Mencher's "Trip"!

XicanoPwr details the private prisons for immigrants, and how they were sold under the "national security" blanket. Also he is issuing a call to action, on some of the issues confronting all of us today.

dove has an open, but not empty! thread and I have a question in the comments there. Also, I have actually written something, even if it's just to let everyone know that I don't like any of them. Political choices, that is.

All done! I think. Don't forget to scroll down, scroll down! And read Manny's pieces... on international women's day and the children left behind to fend for themselves, once again, after a govt raid and more besides!

Sunday days are here again!

Hello everyone, guess what!? It's Sunday! ALL day today. Only... for some reason I didn't think so. heh

We'll swing right into the tour, no silly little notes, no dithering here and there, just straight and serious trotting around the Eegeehood - peeking!

Whew! katiebird is back and firmer than ever! She's letting us know what's for lunch, and a bombshell from bombshell (congrats!) and plenty of daily firmings! Welcome back, katie!

ILJ has a podcast interview (can we call him a journalist yet?) with NY state senator, Liz Krueger, who he calls a change agent. Also. Albany's winter heat (which I think they could probably use more of... the real stuff, that is - brrr!) And a memo to Hillary!

Boran2 has made subtle changes to the condos on the rocks, that nevertheless make a big difference! Also some things, once lost, can never be regained. This makes no difference to those whose only thought of gain is monetary, tho!

[UPDATE!] Hah! People are always trying to hide things from me, as if peeking were not a time honored profession! Take Family Man... he had a birthday when? Last weekend! But he doesn't mention it until Monday! Little does he know (and I'll never tell) that in the Eegeehood time runs mostly from Monday to Sunday, so in Eegeehood time, we can still wish him a Happy Birthday this week! Also, this is one reason why I gave up on wire glasses. But not grocery stores!

Oh gee... it's about Olivia. Well... what's the best way to put it. Hmmm... not only is her head in the clouds, and not only has she gone totally buggy, and not only does she blatantly display morning glory's fascinating inner bits... there is just one last thing you should know about Olivia. She's getting pretty fishy! And has one too! Oh, what to do, what to do... go see! That's what.

supersoling has a song of the day and fine rant (that contains no critters at all!).

Original James has the Iraq Debacle week in review, and also a snippet from Who is IOZ about a hot topic in some parts these days, American Exceptionalism.

Speaking of, Mo Betta has a few Metas, one being the connections between exceptionalism, jingoism and racism, and how language is used, from Arcturus. Also, catnip thinks about recent controversies, such as blog amnesty, and the future of blogs and what comes next? And an excellent conversation going on in this post by James, which highlights a bit of out of control speech... but the comments have evolved on their own to be about something very different!

[UPDATE AGAIN AND MAYBE THE LAST BUT MAYBE NOT!] Arcturus has one of those "start at the top and read down!" type pages today. From UN peacekeeping militarism, to a question few probably know the answer to - or at least free to state it, to the Legacy of Torture and the SF8 and much more! Scroll down!

Nezua too is a start at the top and read down one. Lots of good stuff there! Definitions of terms, which I've only just noticed is Chapter 1! Which is cool, cuz that means there are more to come. Also, I'd not heard of Robert Franklin Williams before, but he sounds interesting... and still timely, after all of these years. Funny how the speech of justice and humanity changes little over time, culture or location. And loads more, all interesting and great reading! And watching, too. Scroll down!

Um... she's melting? Okay, maybe not! I just looked at the title... she's maybe just really, really relaxed. Not like this next lady, elegant tho she may be! Or this fish wielding guy, whose standing as still as statue! Oh, did I mention that all of this was at deanos? go look!

Janet has the whole scoop on some nasty Senator (Smith), that targets peace activists. She also has a way to let him know what you think about that!

I haven't read the story yet, but I love this title from Duke, so am copying the entire thing:Lies, damned lies, and anything coming out of a Minuteman's mouth. It sounds well worth reading!

Don't forget to visit Everybody Comes From Somewhere, and also scroll down here! Manny's got some great stuff too.

All done! (maybe)!

Eegeehood Reading Room

[UPDATE #5]

I'm not in the mood to write anything coherent, so let's play a little game. Here's how it works:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences in the comment section along with the title and author of the book.

I'll update the post with your contribution. Here's mine:

From Translation Nation: Defining a New American Identity in the Spanish-Speaking United States by HƩctor Tobar
A new set of clippings was gathering on his desk, nearly all of them upbeat articles about the Georgia Project, founded by Mitchell and other local leaders who wanted to ease the adaptation of the new arrivals to the state. "The factories need the workers, and the workers come with families," he told me. Without good schools for the workers' children, the county would leave itself open to a whole host of social problems down the road. Giving Dalton's Mexican kids a decent education was the sensible thing to do, "pure self-interest," he said.
Supersoling: From Soldiers In Revolt/GI Resistance During the Vietnam War:
"One of the first publically disclosed acts of sabotage during the Vietnam period occurred on May 26, 1970, aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Anderson, in San Diego. As the ship was preparing to steam into the Pacific for Vietnam, it suffered a major breakdown, resulting in some two hundred thousand dollars worth of property damage and a delay of several weeks. An investigation disclosed that someone had dropped nuts, bolts, and chains down the main gear shaft. Three sailors were charged with willful destruction and sabotage, but because of a lack of evidence the case had to be dismissed."
Right on!

a small quiet voice: Excerpt from 'Where The Domino Fell' America And VietNam,1945-1995 By: James S. Olson & Randy Roberts
If the communists escalated the war,he did not think South Vietnam would be able to handle it. Johnson later recalled, "The political base in the South....was probably too shaky to withstand a major assault."

When Johnson asked about bombing Vietcong targets in retaliation for the attack on Ben Hoa, the joint chiefs passed the question on to General Westmoreland in Saigon. Westmoreland found himself in a quandry.
Nezua: Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes
As for the good carrier, whose lusts kept him awake, he had heard his wench from the moment she came in, and had been listening attentively to the knight's every word. Suspecting that the Asturian maid had broken her promise to him in favor of another, he edged nearer and nearer to Don Quixote's bed, silently waiting to see what his incomprehensible speech might lead to. But, when he saw the maid struggling to break loose and Don Quixote trying to hold her, the jest seemed to have gone too far.
blueneck: From Fighting for Air: The Battle to Control America's Media by Eric Klinenberg
If one media company (or "voice") dominates the production and distribution of local information in a market, regulators reasoned, that organization would have an unhealthy influence on its political, cultural, and economic life. "The reasons for these rules are simple," explained former U.S. Senator Ernest Hollings, a Democrat from South Carolina who said he owed his political career to laws that prevented a local media giant that opposed his candidacy from monopolizing the market and using the position to crush his first campaign. "Diversity in ownership promotes competetition. Diversity in ownership creates opportunities for smaller companies, and local businessmen and women...."
(This book was given to everyone who registered and attended the National Conference for Media Reform, recently held in Memphis.)

alohaleezy: From Living a Life that matters: Resolving the conflict between Conscience and Success by harold S. Kushner...
"And just as with material gifts, the satisfaction of pleasing someone you care about is as gratifying as the pleasure of discovering how much someones cares about you. Ralph Waldo Emerson put it this way: "The glory of friendship is not so much in the outstretched hand or even in the kindly smile. It is in the spiritual inspiration that comes when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with his friendship."

Friends have been defined as people who know you at your worst and like you anyway, people whose company you can be yourself.
Nanette: Seven Steps on the Writer's Path: The Journey from Frustration to Fulfillment - by Nancy Pickard
"Hardly anything in this world is never, always or totally this or completely that. If you think it is, you're on a sure route to wavering about whatever it is you want to do with your writing.

We catastrophize because we're afraid of the unknown, like a certain little rabbit who came up out of his hold one day, looked around and exclaimed, "Oh,! what a lovely day! I think I'll go for a romp. But what if the fox eats me? I wish I could decide---"

CHOMP.
Arcturus: Denise Levertov, "Statement for a Television Program," the poet in the world, New Directions, 1973:
It seems to me that a "balanced" view of genocide and of actions which are leading directly toward the extinction of life on earth is itself a kind of insanity. It is evident, moreover, that a program that first invites people to speak on whatever they feel it is important to say, and then rejects their words in the name of "balanced coverage," is a little short on sincerity. Here is my statement:

I have been asked to speak on this program because I am a poet. One of the obligations of the writer, and perhaps especially of the poet, is to say or sing all that he or she can, to deal with as much of the world as becomes possible to him or her in language.
stormkite: George Soros, The Age of Fallibility
Power is a tricky word; it belongs in the realm of natural science, where it can be precisely defined and measured. When the word "power" is applied to human affairs, it is used metaphorically and its various facets cannot be reduced to a common denominator. A Nobel Prizewinning scientist can be knocked down by an illiterate thug; a powerful dictator can be exploited by a quack or turn into putty in the hands of his wife or mistress. Power is rather like the children's game called "scissors, paper, stone": Sicissors can cut paper, paper can cover stone, stone can crush scissors.
Your turn!

In the comments, anomalous is offering Excel Presentation Manuals and Janet is wrangling with farting gorillas. I love it!

Sunday "Whew, I made it!" Eegeehood tour!

'ello, 'ello everyone! We are here! Well, we being me, who almost wasn't because the Blog Platform That Shall Not Be Named almost didn't want to let my name in! The nerve.

Anyway, are we ready for the Sunday tour!? I'm sure everyone has a lot of stuff up, things to see, places to go, and people to... well, I think I messed that saying up somewhere, but you know what I mean. People to peek at!

First up, I'm in the mood for one of Family Man's stories and guess what? He has a great one... drama, compassion, tension, allegorical references, cliffhangers,.... and that's just the one about his dog George (what a face)! Just wait til you get to Aunt Sally and the Baby!

catnip thinks Republicans don't want to talk about Iraq. I wonder where she got that idea? Also, words are not enough, for the Iraqi war casualties... and a cool video tribute to Janis Joplin.

Original James is done playing doctor and is back where he belongs... blogging about things like Oklahoma joining some other states in the resistance against the Real ID thingy! Also, the Iraq Debacle Week in Review, which is always not very joyful reading, and the partisan blogging code of ethics. I think somewhere along the line here, people are going to need to have real, open and no holds barred conversation about the intersection of blogs, money, politics and politicians. Or we'll all face the consequences. That's all in my humble opinion, of course!

[UPDATE!] If you've not yet seen Nezua's product prototype "Mr Clean Obama" yet, you really must! It's a hoot. Also, The Case of the The Magical Mysterious Corn Cake, which I have not read all of yet, but it looks like fun! And news of a Palestinian family that was released from a US detention camp - good news!

Yay! Olivia has ended her boycott of bugs! Okay, so it's winter in Canada and maybe every self respecting bug is in hiding, but still... she has a lovely bug (and flower) that she has been saving, that was in her garden last fall! Well, she's not been actually saving the bug (as far as I know)... just the picture of it. Also, a black eyed susan that, for some reason, reminds me of a pleading puppy... ears canted back, with big soulful eyes that say... "feed me". And, of course, cloud blogging! I've got nothing, picture wise, in that cloud... unless it's an eagle in flight. Hmmm.

You may or may not be surprised to learn that there is META at Mo Betta! And news, too! Also, gratuitous kitty pics.

[UPDATE AGAIN!] Duke has an excellent article on immigration, multiculturalism and the threat to western civilization, and it's amusing as well. The silly things ignorant folks perpetrate, sigh. Also, news on escalating violence at the border.

ILJ has a podcast of the history of civil rights in Yonkers! New York, that is. Just in case there are other Yonkers around. Cuz you know... some names are just plain fun, and so lots of places have them. Also, an interview with Congressman Jerry Nadler!

Do you know who Josh Wolf is? I didn't either! But Arcturus is not going to let him be forgotten. And that's a good thing, as he is a video journalist/blogger... and his incarceration, charges and court case is of importance to many of us. [ UPDATE IN THE MIDDLE!] Also, don't miss Arcturus' piece on prison labor and e-waste! Chock full of information about hidden aspects of our prison system, and also environmental issues.

Boran is blocking in our condos on the rocks, and they are starting to take form! Also, the sneaky way to allow something politically and environmentally important to die... underfund it!

[UPDATE THE LAST!] katiebird is in a tussle with time stealers! BUT... she has the secret weapons to win! Also, she is still being firmed daily and also has more on healthcare, in Healthcare Thursday! Even tho it's not Thursday now, but it was then. I think.

Well now... deano is getting organic! Or something. Grooved liver? Also a colorful city, which I quite like (am not all that fond of liver, tho) and then there is the holy moment! Lots of neat things there (but who would want to paint liver? this is what I want to know. I am going to haunted, I just know it).

Janet has news, a story and pics on the arrest of six grandmothers! Obviously, grannies are the new Threat To Civilization. Sigh.

Supersoling has some cool news about the kindness of friends, dads and very cool pictures. Go read!

Speaking of pictures, our Manny came back with lots of them from the march! Scroll down!

All done! If I've forgotten anyone, let me know.

Sunny (at least here) Sunday Tour!

I hope everyone is having a beautiful, sunshiny day or, if not, at least a relaxing one! Only, don't get too relaxed, cuz it's time to wander around and take the tour!

First up... the things we sacrifice for our kids, parents or just friends. How brave some of us are! How resolute in our determination to stand between a loved one and harm how... oh, just go read about Family Man's bravery and sacrifice in The Great Frozen Fudge Bars Eat Off! And the follow-up...

Original James has bunches of stuff! So, you should just go to the top and start reading. Here are a few highlights, though... he reiterates about Claudia Card's conception of social death, and it's importance to understanding genocide. And highlights an important point and asks questions about the Surge and Iran. And sometimes one picture really IS worth 1000 words... Jazzy James is on hiatus!

katiebird is still not up to snuff, but she does have an interesting question.... “What if there wasn’t a patent on the cure for cancer?”

[UPDATE!] ILJ (who we somehow forgot last week... and um, yes, that IS a royal "we") has been bizzy! Another one to start at the top and read down, but here are highlights! Remembering Barbara Jordan is a great look back at one of the greatest women of our time. Also, looking at electoral politics, runners past and present and expectations in Where's the Beef? Not to mention that he is really, truly excited... or maybe not, that Hillary's running!

Olivia is back from the wilds of Ontario, and she's brought pictures! Well, I know it's not quite a surprise that Olivia has pictures, but still... do you think they line these all up and measure them to get that perfect row that somehow or other means Christmas is over? And where would we be without inner bits? Well we meaning, in this case, a lily! And fog over the river and cloud blogging (I think you are supposed to see if you can see a picture in the clouds!) and more... go read!

Duke explains why a temporary worker program should be avoided... many of these things that sound kinda good aren't at all. Also, the government is working on a way to collect immigrant DNA. Sigh. Lots more there... people have been posting up a storm, so start at the top and read!

[UPDATE AGAIN!] catnip has a Sunday Food for Thought! I know, I know.. it's not Sunday without it, but I thought I would just point that out... it's about Perceptions. Also, a great piece on Nation Building vs "Democracy Promotion". Lots of food for thought there too! Who knew that writing a letter to the editor could cause the Secret Service to land on your doorstep? Even if you are 81 years old!

Arcturus has an article on Energo-fascism, which I am not sure what that is yet as I've not had time to fully read the piece, but it sounds interesting! Also, the preparation of us for war with Iran in 'fact witnesses and propaganda. And more there besides... you know the drill!

At the art crit deano has a mountain spirit and scrap paper, where you can scribble to your hearts content (but not on the mountain spirit)! What more could you ask for?

It's finished! Our painting that boran is doing all the work on, that is! He's pleased with how the "four tubes of paint" worked out, and so are we! We have to wait til next week to see what the new painting will be, though. Also, he's branching out and has become an Oliviaite! Yay! Don't know what that is? Well, just take a look and you'll see!

XicanoPwr gives us a scary update on the US concentration camps... this time, on the imprisonment of innocent children! Also, a great piece that clears up some misconceptions and gives the Real Legacy of Cesar Chavez.

Nezua has bunches of stuff (you know the drill!) but he does confess that the Iraq War is all his fault. Read why! Also, he points to an article that seems a bit... off, for the type of site it's on. I've not read it yet, but will do! And it's quite likely you don't know what you think you know, about Mexico.

All done! I think... if I've forgotten you (as if I ever could!), just let me know!

Sunday "Ohh la la!" tour

*peeks cautiously over the window sill" ... Hmmm.

Soothing, easy on the eyes, yet indescribable (cuz I don't know the name of it) color... check. Eegee Board in the corner... check. Familiar names and (type)faces... check. Aha... and the final test... Bud in the house! Check!

*goes to the door and swings it wide open*... Whew! I'm in the right, if newly redecorated, place - and so are you! And, it's time to clatter around town and see who's been naughty or... oh wait, that was last month. And see what everyone is up to! Nosiness, thankfully, takes no holidays and has no seasons!

catnip has more information on the Case of the Canadian Spying Coins Caper! I admit to trying to get rid of Canadian quarters (and US coin dollars) as soon as I get them, because of the confusion, but not because I thought the coins were spying on me! But you know who IS, don't you? Well, besides the NSA, the FBI, the CIA, the lesser known Alphabet organizations, the local police and sheriffs departments and your cable guy? The Pentagon also wants to know where you stand in the Pepsi or Coke, or Mastercard or Visa wars! And probably lots else besides. Also, catnip's Sunday Food for Thought, which you can tell is interesting because it deals with the The I and the Not-I.

Duke highlights more anti immigrant wingnuttery... this time, the Keyboard Vigilantes where, with the click of a self-righteously propelled mouse! they can put someone's life, entire family and/or employment in danger. Also, the border fence boondoggle, where the cost is more than just money.

Family Man has a wonderful poignant and amusing story of his first, bloodied but shaved, step into manhood... and the memories that go along with his father's shaving mug. Go read!

[UPDATE!] Have you been through your trial by fire!? This is what Nezua wants to know! Okay, well what he really wants to do is cut down on spam and hateful comments, so he's got moderation on but is adding addresses of posters to a by-pass type thingy, so go do a test comment and get added! I got sent immediately to spam... story of my life, sigh! Also this, the sinking ship of American illusion, voices some of the thoughts I've had... but, of course, much more eloquently! You've gotta read this one, if just for the horror magazine cover of Malkin alone!

Boran highlights the insanity and hatred just burning through the pockets of anti-immigrant... or really, anti Lation@ forces that apparently even extends to money in A Slice of Racism. Also, our painting is close to completion, which shadows and depth added and just a few finishing touches needed!

Speaking of art, deano has decided to take over the world, and as every revolutionary knows (except for anarchists, who apparently reject having things written down), for that you need a Manifesto! And of course you have to know how to join in! Okay, so maybe it's all more about what the site is about, and how to submit your own pieces (such as the new one there now, Remembering, by Paul Kane), but still. All good info!

[UPDATE AGAIN!] katiebird is still not being firmed daily, as she is toppling over but she's appeared in comments so at least we know she's okay. Hi katie!

XicanoPwr has had the flu, but still manages to put together a great roundup of what's happening now in the recent raids, and personal stories and also actions you can take! Go read!

[UPDATE THE LAST!] Original James has some cautionary words about the collapse of Junior Caligula's (and I bet you can't guess who that is!) presidency, and what we can do about it. Also, an update on Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr, one of those disappeared and tortured by the US government - who has been, thankfully, not shutting up about it.

Arcturus introduces us (if you weren't already familiar) to Ram Narayan, an Indian musician. Also, he notes the passing of Alice Coltrane, an amazing and talented woman, who was also the widow of John Coltrane.

I think that's it... some haven't updated, some haven't checked in... Manny has lots of stuff, though... scroll down, scroll down! Also, a few people have been nominated for various sections of the lefty Koufax awards - I am not going to list them, as without a doubt I will forget some, but congrats to everyone! The Eegeehood is the Best, and so I bestow an award on everyone! I'll figure out what to name it later.

All done!

Meta - Koufax Nominations and Getting Tagged

First up, congratulations to you all - we've been nominated in three four categories for the 2006 Koufax Awards.

Best Group Blog (x2)
Best Single Issue Blog
Best Human Equality Blog
Best New Blog

The nominations are compiled through the comment section at Wampum. My thanks to the people who nominated this humble spot in blogtopia (yes! skippy coined that phrase).

And now, to answer Dean's tagging from last week: Once "tagged" in this round, there is the option of either posting 7 accomplishments in 2006 or listing 5 quirky things about oneself that others probably don't know.

Since I'm the quirkiest person I know, I'm gonna go with that option:
  • I often dream in espaƱol but freak myself out when speaking it in the semi-conscious state called daytime
  • While sleeping, I cup my face with one of my hands instead of resting against the pillow - perhaps that explains the recent acne breakout
  • I have an irrational fear of the giant squid
  • I'm allergic to avocados but refuse to give up guacamole, so I suffer through the itchy throat
  • the first book I ever owned was Danny and the Dinosaur, by Syd Hoff - several years ago I got it signed by the author and re-read it regularly just to lighten the mood.
So there you have it. To continue the tagging trend, I choose supersoling at Even Flow; katiebird at Eat4Today; latinasoyme at Mi Destino: fe, cultura y vida; Family Man at Mundane Doesn't Describe it, and spiderleaf at Jaded Reality.

Have some fun with it!

Happy New Sunday! Tour, That Is

Hello, hello, hope everyone has had a good week and weekend, and can't wait for Monday to get here!

Okay, well back to reality... as if! Mondays should have been excised from the calendar long ago, but what can you do? I know! Since it's still Sunday, we can wander around and see what everyone else is up to.

First up, as the town crier/busybody/peeker/public service person, I should tell you that some of youse have been tagged! Yes, indeed... see, deano got tagged with a meme and he wants to share the joy with a few people - the only ones that concern us is...well.. .us! And so, it's my duty to inform Manny and Olivia, you've been tagged! Of course, there is also a new painting of ... well I love the use of the colors and layers and such. Go look!

katiebird is not out of the woods yet! She's tipping over and stuff! She needs hugs and possibly a change in medication, I'd say. Go hug! Also she has a resolution for us to look at, and support, so see if it's something that you feel you can get behind.

Okay, I have another new favorite (to add to my many other favorites) of Olivia's... it's an apparently stinky flower (but luckily smell doesn't come through the screen!), but amazing (to me) composition of light and shadow in the photo... makes me think of a perfume or wine ad, for some reason. And then she shows us its inner bits!

[UPDATE!] catnip thinks someone needs to mind their sources! Of course, that could apply to many people and publications, but in this case there is a lot hanging in the balance. Also, this is not about politicians, but still.. the new morons, same as the old morons. Heh.

I saw this story that Nezua (who has tried to hide his permalinks from me again, but it didn't work!) highlights when it first came out and loved it... hope it does have a happy ending, eventually. Also, part three of his The Haunted Land series is just as lyrical, fascinating and informative as the first two parts, and make for nice Sunday reading!

Arcturus is really back! It's one of those "start at the top and read down" cases, with Divine Strakes and Henry Fonseca and art and poetry and politics and more! Wonderful stuff. Go read!

[UPDATE AGAIN!] Original James revisits the case for impeachment that was Cynthia McKinney's last gift to the congress. Just add water! Also, more about Iran, from a different direction. Sigh. Over at Jazzy James... gasp! No new stuff. yet!

Family Man is reminding about the bootrib art fair! You have to go to bootrib to find it though, as the links aren't working or something. Also, he was in a bad mood, but I'm sure he's over it! Can you imagine... Family Man in a bad mood? Does not compute! Hope things settle down, FM!

Well! Boran has an eclectic mix of snow globes and monkey tushes! Top that! Also, our picture is coming along.. it's ready to get shadows! And that's when you know you are real... when you can see your shadow. Well, except on cloudy days, you're still real then too.

All done! I probably missed some folks, but my computer is overheating, sigh... I hate when it does that! Also, I realized that I forgot to sign my own petition last week, and say hi to everyone in the comments, so... Hi! Good to see all the folks we've not seen for a while, and who we miss. Well, and good to see all the folks we do see fairly often, too!

Everyone have a great week :)
